Layne Scherer (she/hers) has been involved in ultimate since 2012, when she played for two years as a graduate student. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she has coached for Catholic University of America. Scherer also is a founding player and former coach of Suffrage, a women’s developmental club team (est. 2015). She is returning to D.C. Shadow as the team representative to the Premier Ultimate League's Board of Directors and currently sits on the Board's Executive Committee.
In her professional life, Scherer is a Study Director and Senior Program Officer at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Her policy portfolio includes undergraduate and graduate education; mental health and wellbeing; and anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. Scherer earned her B.A. (English, history of art) and M.P.P. from the University of Michigan.
